Sunshine Books, Art and Coffee, Hove
Kim sought my guidance after attending my coffee house course to bring her vision for a unique space to life: Sunshine Books, Art, and Coffee. Her vision was to create a unique space that would not only serve delicious coffee but also foster a love for literature and art.
My conceptual design emphasized a clean, minimalist aesthetic. White walls provided a neutral backdrop for the local artwork, whilst cozy seating areas invited customers to relax and immerse themselves in a good book. The space was designed to be dog-friendly, creating a welcoming environment for both humans and their furry companions.
To ensure the efficient operation of the cafe, I created detailed sectional drawings of the service counter. These drawings highlighted the use of reclaimed wood, which added warmth and character to the space. The design incorporated ample storage space, service areas, and strategic void spaces for future flexibility.
To complement the cafe’s unique ambiance, I developed a draft menu that offered a selection of high-quality espresso coffee, freshly prepared sandwiches, and refreshing salads. This menu was carefully curated to appeal to a diverse range of customers, from bookworms to art enthusiasts.
To streamline operations and ensure consistency, I provided Kim with essential tools such as my excel staff rota template, excel supplier stock and product list, and a sample job advertisement. These resources helped her to recruit and to organise her staff, to control stock and place orders.
A key component of the cafe’s success was the acquisition of a Faema E61 vintage espresso machine. By leveraging my extensive network of suppliers, I was able to source this iconic machine, ensuring that Kim could offer her customers exceptional coffee.
Sunshine Books, Art, and Coffee has quickly become a beloved community hub, attracting both locals and tourists. The cafe’s unique blend of art, literature, and delicious coffee has created a truly special experience for all who visit.
